if y'all closed out both the sconfig and cmd window so ctrl-alt-del (or ctrl-alt-terminate on a remote session) and beginning the task manager.  and then become to file > run new job and from there type sconfig and or cmd.

it is to my agreement that the full server manager window does non exist on server core, I might be wrong merely now I am curious.

Sconfig looks like this:

Press "Enter", SConfig will appear.

ServerManager looks like this:

Press "Enter" and Server Manager will announced.

It tin, merely y'all have to become with the minimal install. Nice thing about Server 2012 is that you lot can switch between a full GUI and Core with a few simple PowerShell cmdlets. It'south really like shooting fish in a barrel.

Merely blazon in ServerManager, and that should reopen it. Also, you do not have to manage Server 2012 or 2012 R2 at the server itself anymore. Use RSAT tools from your Windows viii.1 or even a Windows vii automobile (won't have server director simply all the other tools yous demand) and learn PowerShell remoting. Yous will be much more efficient that way and learn some new skills.

mmm. Feeling kind of stupid now :-) I tried another combinations similar serverman & svrmngr. Didn't think about writing information technology out in full. hahaha

I am deploying new servers & vm's so I Remote Desktop into them to set up each ane up. It helps with my workflow if i connect into them cause so I know I am not forgetting something.

Not to clued up with PSRemoting. Came across it a few times now. Will expect into it.

No, it does not. Two entirely split technologies. One is a standalone Type-1 hypervisor. The other (Server 2012 R2) can have the Hyper-V role enabled, but when you do enable that characteristic, Server 2012 R2 rides on height of the Hyper-V at that point.

There'south 0 difference betwixt using Server Manager via RSAT or doing the extra footstep of using RDP to the server. This is the old manner. Server Manager is the new way and referred to heavily on the new MCSA exams. Time to start using it ;-).

If you are using core or even the minimal interface, not actually necessary because you don't log on locally to the server you lot are managing with RSAT. If y'all are using ForeFront, you have PowerShell cmdlets that can be used.

Backup software, configure other software or copy files with RSAT.

Fill-in Software supports PowerShell, WSB, Backup Assist to proper noun a couple backup products back up PowerShell cmdlets. There are others too. As for configuring software and copying files, you can still practice some of this via PowerShell or RSAT tools. The point I was trying to make is that you should very rarely take to use RDP anymore for server administration.
